Source: sun-sentinel.com November 27 Teaching and acting againOut of rehab and teaching acting, film icon and Hobe Sound resident Burt Reynolds appeared back on his game Friday night.
Jovial and personable, Reynolds stepped on stage to the applause of his master acting class at his Burt Reynolds Institute for Film and Theatre. He felt obligated to his students and wanted to set an example, he said.
The nearly 30 students were the first to publicly see a rejuvenated Reynolds after his much-publicized voluntary rehabilitation for addiction to prescription pain killers.
“It’s hard being sober,” Reynolds told the class. “But here I am, absolutely sober again. I’m awake and alert, and things are going good.” The students, friends and supporters monitoring the class applauded.
Reynolds, 73, was casually dressed. His dark hair and mustache were in stark contrast to his newly acquired short gray beard. Sitting on the small stage set used by the BRIFT classes, he joked with students, spoke personally to several, before discussing his recent stint in a West Palm Beach rehab center.
“It’s not easy to be sober, but I’m OK, even though my back still isn’t,” said Reynolds, referring to the back surgery he had four months ago, which led to his “prison of prescription pain pills.”
It got so difficult in July, according to BRIFT chairman of the board Suzanne Niedland, that he showed tremendous courage, decided to check in and drove himself to the Hanley Center for rehabilitation, where he spent 3 1/2 weeks of a 30-day program, completing the rest on an out-patient basis.
Oscar nominated, Emmy and Golden Globe Award winning Reynolds was apparently fighting his own personal and private demons, while stirring up national media and tabloid attention when the story leaked locally Sept. 16. He has suffered back problems for quite some time, the result of being injured doing so many of his own film stunts.
“One of the reasons I did what I did, and went public with all of this, is because I have so many friends and family and students like you all here, who have stood by me and care about me with so much love and dedication. I didn’t want to let you down,” Reynolds said.
Reynolds said he is aware there are many people going through the same ordeal with addictions, and he wanted to help by setting an example, he said. “I want to show how important it is to get professional help to get their lives and health back together. You can’t do that if you aren’t sober, and you can’t do it alone.”
Informing his students of upcoming plans, he said, “I’ll be gone for a while. I’m not sure how long, but I know you will carry on with the class and you have Ken Kay, (newly hired executive director of BRIFT) to help you.”
Reynolds said he will be off to Hollywood, to join Jon Voight and Gary Sinise in a big tribute to actor and friend Charles Durning, one of the most highly decorated soldiers in WW II. Then he will be back at work on a movie, yet untitled, that he is doing with Daryl Hannah.

I just forgot how great this website is:
November 17 Burt not in "Fonder Heart"Calling the creator of A Fonder heart "everything that is wrong with the motion picture industry," Burt Reynolds informed the Times on Monday that he won't work with writer-director Jim Fitzpatrick on that movie or any other.
Reynolds' text message, relayed by his Los Angeles manager Erik Kritzer, expressed anger at Fitzpatrick's comments to the Times and other media outlets that the actor's recent drug rehabilitation stint delayed production of A Fonder Heart..
The actor also contradicted Fitzpatrick's claim that he knew about Reynolds' impending rehab and visited the actor two weeks ago in South Florida.
"I have not personally spoken with, nor have I seen Jimmy Fitzpatrick for months," Reynolds, 73, texted. "He is not a close friend or confident (sic) and knew nothing about my decision to enter rehab, nor did he know about my back surgery. It really hurts me that there are people out there who would take advantage of me while I'm dealing with personal challenges.
Fitzpatrick, 50, of Seminole, didn't return e-mail and telephone requests Monday to comment on Reynolds' statement and the status of A Fonder Heart.
The filmmaker previously spoke to the Times about hitches in financing that delayed production since August. Contacted Friday for comment about Reynolds' rehab, Fitzpatrick said a Sept. 21 start date was postponed due to the hospitalization.
"That's a lie," Kritzer said in a telephone interview. "That makes Burt look like he's holding up a film. There is no film production. Jim's trying to get a movie financed but he doesn't have a film."
Reynolds' attachment to the project — which was never finalized with a contract, according to Kritzer — enabled Fitzpatrick to attract publicity, investors, an inexpensive crew and a cast including Oscar winner Lou Gossett Jr., Daryl Hannah and James Brolin. Reynolds' acrimonious departure may have the same ripple effect, in reverse. That timetable may be hastened when Hannah reads statements like this from Reynolds: "Jimmy Fitzpatrick is not your local hero, there are plenty of other people in the Tampa Bay area that deserve it but not him," Reynolds texted. "He has falsely painted me as the villain who held up a film and let down countless adults and children.
"Jimmy Fitzpatrick is everything that is wrong with the motion picture industry. I will never work for, or with him."
Source: tampabay.com and afonderheart.com Burt's RehabBurt Reynolds has gone public with his battle against an addiction to painkillers, hoping his story will help others in a similar situation.
Reynolds' manager Erik Kritzer said in a widely reported statement that Burt Reynolds had checked into a drug rehab clinic to receive treatment for an addiction to painkillers that were prescribed following back surgery. Kritzer did not give details on when or where Reynolds was treated but he did later say the actor had been released from the rehab clinic in Florida already. "After a recent back surgery, Mr. Reynolds felt like he was going through hell and after a while, realized he was a prisoner of prescription pain pills," Kritzer said in the statement reported on CNN and other media outlets. "He checked himself into rehab in order to regain control of his life. Mr. Reynolds hopes his story will help others in a similar situation. He hopes they will not try to solve the problem by themselves, but realize that sometimes it is too tough to do on their own and they should seek help, as he did."
Burt leaves rehab and looking fine.
Reynolds made the following statement;
"I felt that in spite of the fact I am supposedly a big tough guy, I couldn't beat prescription drugs on my own. I've worked hard to get off of them and really hope other people will realize they need to seek professional help, rather than ignoring the problem or trying to get off of the prescriptions on their own." "This has been a challenging time for me personally, and I really appreciate the outpouring of love and support from my fans, friends and family. I am looking forward to getting back to teaching and working."
Bron: Mirror.co.uk & HLN.be & 24-7pressrelease.com Days are numbered for the Burt Reynolds museumThe days are numbered for the museum filled with the Jupiter native's football and acting memorabilia.
Demolition of the former First Union Bank building housing the museum could be in a year. The building is part of the 10-acre site for Harbourside, a $110 million restaurant/hotel/marina complex.
The council last week approved selling the town-owned building to the developer for $2.5 million. Talks have been held between the town, Burt Reynolds and the developer about moving the museum into the waterfront development.
But talk isn't good enough, according to an Aug. 17 letter from Suzanne Niedland, chair of the Burt Reynolds Institute for Film and Theater, which operates out of the museum. "Without an agreement, we fear that rental rates, assessments and other fees ... would make it impossible for the museum to stay in this area," reads the letter. Acting and directing classes, some taught by Reynolds, also are held at the museum.
Museum officials began looking for new digs when Harbourside was proposed about two years ago.
"People are used to the museum where it is. The museum should stay there," said museum founder Mike Daniel.
But Mayor Karen Golonka said other non-profit organizations must be considered. A 2,500-square-foot section in Harbourside is designated for non-profit agencies.
"There is no guarantee Burt Reynolds is going into Harbourside," said Golonka.
The museum has rented the first floor of the former bank building from the town for about five years. The building is the last parcel on the tract not owned by Allied Development, the Palm Beach Gardens-based developer.
The fact that tax dollars could fund Harbourside gives the town added interest in the project. Up to $350,000 a year from the Community Redevelopment Agency district could go to the 10-acre project for up to 15 years. A date for the council to vote on the CRA funding has not been set.
Nick Mastroianni, manager of Allied, said it is up to the town council to decide who moves into the non-profit space .
The museum needs to be more than acting classes, photos of Burt Reynolds with Loni Anderson, and canoes used in filming Deliverance, a 1972 movie starring Reynolds, Mastroianni said.
"Make it a theater. Have shows. Expand the acting school. It's got to be something more interactive that will bring people to Harbourside," said Mastroianni.

Groet van uw webmaster. September 24 Plot "Catch .44"
To find out what the plot is for the upcoming Burt Reynolds-movie "Catch .44", Dutch-Burt wrote an e-mail to the production company of the movie. The kind Jonah Hirsch wrote an e-mail back to me.
This is the plot:
Tes, Dawn and Kara are three girls working dead end jobs barely getting by in Vegas. Their lives radically change when Tes has a run-in with an interesting stranger named Mel. When Mel offers the girls a chance at a better life through crime, they take him up on the offer only to find themselves thrust into a life or death situation involving a psychopathic hit-man, a grizzly trucker, and a delusional line cook.
Jonah also wrote that Burt Reynolds plays "Mel", a calculated, manipulative character who is a bit of Orson Welles mixed with Howard Hughes.
They are excited to work with Mr. Reynolds and they hope that they can bring back the classic characters that Burt used to play during his heyday.
Thanks Jonah September 10 Burt Reynolds in "Not Another Not Another Movie"Burt Reynolds will have a part in the movie "Not Another Not Another Movie" from director David Murphy.

August 25 Visiting the museum & meeting Mr. ReynoldsDUTCH-BURT VISITING THE BURT REYNOLDS & FRIENDS MUSEUM
Finally, after almost 25 years of being a Burt Reynolds’-fan I visited The Burt Reynolds & Friends Museum in Jupiter, Florida. http://www.burtreynoldsmuseum.org/index.html Let me tell you something… It is a 5 star (5/5) recommend to visit it and every Reynolds-fan should go there. Special thanks goes out to the Director of the museum: Mike Daniel, he was willing to open the doors even though the museum is closed during the week. The museum (a former bank branch) is highly decorated with photos of Burt with Presidents, friends, family and famous people. Personal letters from Jack Lemmon and Frank Sinatra. Personal gifts from Sally Field and Goldie Hawn. There are some great props from his movies: helmet from “The Longest Yard”, Burt’s outfit from “Smokey and the Bandit II” and the original canoe from “Deliverance”. You can also take a look at Burt’s impressing TV and movie awards: People’s Choice awards, Emmy Award, Golden Globe Awards and his recently winning World Stunt Award and many more. I needed 2 hours to visit the museum and still wanted to stay longer, there is a lot to see. During the week the museum is offering educational programs include a “Master Acting Class” for experienced actors that is often personally taught by Mr. Reynolds. Director Mike Daniel was very kind and told me that he mentioned my “Unofficial Dutch-Burt Reynolds Website” with Mr. Reynolds. He also mentioned that Mr. Reynolds will give his “Master Acting Class” next week. Me and my girlfriend will stay for another 2 weeks in Florida so Mike will try to put us on the “Master Acting Class”-list to see how Mr. Reynolds teach his students. Later we talked about Sally Jo Wagner and Charles Nelson Reilly and how Mike was Set decorator for the Burt Reynolds’ movie “The Maddening”. I walked out the door with great Burt-memorabilia such as a “Longest Yard” -shirt and a die-cast model of the famous Trans-Am from “Smokey and the Bandit”. Entrance of the museum. Director Mike Daniel, "Burt" and me . Highly decorated! Burts outfit from Smokey and the Bandit II.

MEETING BURT REYNOLDSAugust 5, 2008... it was D-Day or better… Burt-Day. We will attend a “Master Acting Class” teached by Hollywood legend Mr. Reynolds. Here we were, our second visit of the museum and it looks even better. Mike Daniel is there to welcome us. I almost got a nerveous breakdown cause there he is…. I see Mr. Reynolds standing in the back, near a bar. All dressed in black, Burt look great. We sat down on our chairs and wait for the students to attend the stage. Actresses Avery Sommers (“B.L. Stryker”) and Jo Ann Pflug (“Mash”) were also in the public. As the Class began, Mr. Reynolds sat down on his chair near the stage. The whole “Master Acting Class” will be taped by two cameras (The Film Commission is currently making a documentary of Reynolds' classes for distribution in Palm Beach County school's drama departments). After every scene Mr. Reynolds gave advise to improve and stimulate te actors about their performances. It was incredible and unbelievable awesome to see the Hollywood legend teach the actors. Different scenes were played and now and then Mr. Reynolds got on stage. Once in a while Mr. Reynolds told stories about Charlton Heston and James Dean. It is amazing to watch. I had told Mike Daniel that we couldn't stay the whole night cause we had to go back to Miami. During a short break I walked my way to Mike to thank him for be a part of this great night. Mike wanted me to wait and introduce me to Mr. Reynolds... My heart almost stopped. Mike took me to Mr. Reynolds and said: “Burt, this is the guy we were talking about last week”. I said that it was an honour to meet him and that Burt is my hero for almost 25 years. Mr. Reynolds shakes my hand and puts his hand on my neck, he said some nice things to me. In the meantime the actors were on stage again and the show must go on, Mr. Reynolds had to teach. Sure it was a short conversation and offcourse I wanted to ask a lot of questions. But how many fans in the world can say that they met and talked with Burt Reynolds? I said goodbye and returned to my seat. I see my girlfriend is very touched, cause she knew this was one of my greatest moments and a wish came true. Mike… Burt… Thanks.
Het is D-Day of beter gezegd….Burt-Day.
Mike introduceert me met: “Burt, this is the guy we were talking about last week”.
Mike…. Burt…. Bedankt.

January 12 Burt Reynolds in “A Bunch of Amateurs”Burt Reynolds is coming to Blighty to star in “A Bunch of Amateurs,” the first movie to be greenlit by CinemaNX, the new production financing venture backed by the Isle of Man. “Bunch of Amateurs,” which starts shooting Feb. 2, is a fish-out-of-water comedy about an ageing Hollywood action star who accepts an invitation to play King Lear at Stratford, in the hope of reviving his career. When he arrives, he discovers that the play is not being staged by the Royal Shakespeare Company at Stratford-upon-Avon, as he thought, but by an amateur dramatic society in the rural village of Stratford St. John. The charity performance has been widely publicized, so he is unable to back out. The local thesps are played by Samantha Bond, Derek Jacobi and Imelda Staunton.

There he is, standing in the pooring rain in a Dutch place called Muiden. It is 1979 and Burt Reynolds agreed to play the lead in “Rough Cut”. Maybe on paper it was an interesting project but in reality it is nothing more than trouble. Don Siegel, who often directed Clint Eastwood, is the director of “Rough Cut” and “Mash”-writer Larry Gelbart wrote the script, wich is more a remake of “To Catch a Thief”. But Burt was tired of all those car-movies and was ready for a more sophisticated comedy. A sort of Cary Grant-movie. He has the charming Lesley Anne Down as co-star, but she is really unhappy. Producer David Merrick did a lot of Broadway-productions but doesn’t trust the movie-buisiness. He has a lot of fights with Don Siegel, so he is replaced with Peter H. Hunt, but after a couple of weeks Siegel is hired again.
But Siegel has health problems and Burt did do the directory for one day. The last scenes are recorded near a windmill in Muiden and some red light-district-footage will be shot in the Cinetone-studio’s. Burt Reynolds doesn’t look happy, there is no California sun and maybe he realise that this picture won’t be the one he hoped for. Burt is wearing a long rain coat and is making jokes with Lesley Anne Down.
I am walking on the set with a cameraman and a soundman for my documentary about Don Siegel for NOS-Dutch television: “Don Siegel, last of the independents”. I am trying to speak and get Burt Reynolds in front of the my camera. During a break I see him and say: I hope you don’t mind I’m making some recordings with the camera”. “No problem” is his short answer and walks away. This isn’t going well, I have one more day left. Tomorrow in the Cinetone-studio’s is my last chance to interview him. I won’t get him to talk. But then I see Don Siegel: “Is it going well?” he asks. Well to tell you the truth, I won’t get Burt Reynolds to talk to me. Siegel has a solution: “I will tell him that you will interview Clint Eastwood, then he will talk to you and when you are in L.A., I will tell Clint that you interviewed Burt”. I think it is a great idea.
Before “Rough Cut”, Siegel did “Escape from Alcatraz”, with Clint Eastwood, it is already released in England. Because of the problems he didn’t want to talk to the press. Now he changed his mind. It is about to be released in Holland and the buzz is that it is a real good movie. “Can you get me find some journalists for tomorrow during lunch, Thys”, Siegel asks. “Sure, I will call them”, and later that evening I’m calling some college’s to ask if they wanted to talk with Siegel. They all wanted to come. Those meetings were good for the movie and made some good publicity. Publicity-manager Doreen Landry is surprised, she couldn’t and was forbidden to arrange something back in London. But she is working for Merrick and I think that is the problem.
The next day they are filming in the Cinestone-Studios. Art-Director Red Hayworth (he also worked with Siegel on “Invasion of the bodysnatchers”) build a street in Amsterdam that looks just like the red light district in Amsterdam. He build a house with girls behind some windows. Siegel’s wife Carol is doing a cameo as a prostitute and I also recognise Dutch actress Belinda Meuldijk as an extra in the role of a prostitute. Siegel himself is also doing a cameo but his scene will cut out of the end-version.
I’m filming a scene of Burt and Leslie Anne Down having a fight with a pimp, played by German actor Wolf Kahler. I recieve a sign that I can talk with Burt. We instal the camera/sound quickly, and a short conversation will start. Burt is relaxed and is in a good mood, “I always wanted to make a film with Don Siegel and my friend Clint always said that we have to work together sometime, If you are working with Don Siegel it seems like you are going to the filmacademy, you can learn a lot from him”.
I ask: “You directed 3 movies of your own, who inspired you?” “Mel Brooks, advised me to fire someone the first day of shooting, it gives you respect. Robert Aldrich, I made “The Longest Yard” and “Hustle” with him, was also a big inspiration for me”. Burt is not so enthousiastic about Peter Bogdanovich. He putted him in a Cole Porter-musical “At Long Last Love”, the movie flopped. “If you are making a movie were I sing, you take a big risk, but I really take Bogdanovich for a blame when he didn’t insured me for “Nickelodeon”, I had a lot of troubles because of that”. “And how is your relation with Clint Eastwood?” “We are good friends and we are looking for a project for both of us to play in. We started our movie-career at the same time. He was rejected because of his adamsapple and he had dirt on his teeth, I was not talented enough. I said to him, I can learn to act, but you never get rid of that adamsapple. Since that time we didn’t do bad in this buisiness”.

BURT REYNOLDS IN DE REGEN (Door Thys Ockersen)
Die zette hem in een Cole Portermusical “At long last love” die kolossaal flopte.
